New cross-border rocket attack kills one in SE Turkey

KILIS, Turkey (AA) – A projectile, reportedly fired from Syria, has killed one person in Turkey’s southeastern border province of Kilis, according to local sources.

According to sources speaking anonymously, one rocket landed Monday evening in Peace Street in the Kazim Karabekir neighborhood.

A number of injuries have been reported, but details are still emerging.

This latest death follows similar attacks Sunday, when eight people were injured after four rockets landed in the same area, prompting a return of fire across the border by the Turkish military.

Kilis lies six kilometers (four miles) from the Syrian border.

Turkey has been under indiscriminate rocket attack from inside Syria since mid-January. In Kilis province alone, a total of 18 people have been killed and 60 others have been wounded as a result.
