ANKARA (AA) – The NBA is moving towards resuming the league season after a call with league Commissioner Adam Silver, a league insider confirmed on Wednesday.

Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN said that in line with health conditions, league owners and executives feel optimistic about the future of the games after the call with Silver.

With the format of the basketball teams’ return still up in the air, he wrote: “The league hasn't worked through the details on whether all 30 teams would return or whether regular-season games would be played or if perhaps there would be a play-in tournament to give more teams a chance to make the 16-team playoff field."

As for social isolation to prevent any coronavirus transmission, a “campus environment” has been discussed, he said, with players staying in Orlando, Florida or Las Vegas, Nevada.

Wojnarowski also said Tuesday that some players got a text message trying to gauge their sentiment about restarting play.

Like countless other sports tournaments and leagues, the NBA season was suspended in March over virus fears.

The US is the country worst hit by the coronavirus pandemic with over 1.37 million confirmed cases and over 82,000 deaths, according to data from Johns Hopkins University.
