ANKARA (AA) – The NBA Houston Rockets signed forward Carmelo Anthony on Monday to a one-year deal.

The Rockets made the announcement on their website.

Rockets star guard Chris Paul welcomed Anthony to the team on social media.

The former Denver Nuggets and New York Knicks superstar played for the Oklahoma City Thunder last season, where he averaged 16.2 points and 5.8 rebounds in 78 appearances.

The Thunder traded him to the Atlanta Hawks in exchange for Dennis Schroder and Mike Muscala in a multiteam trade last month.

Anthony, according to league sources, was said to be waived by Atlanta Hawks and would join a team of his choice. The Rockets were frontrunners to sign him.

Anthony was drafted by the Nuggets in 2003 in the first-round and played in 10 All-Star games during his 15-year career.

He also managed to bag three Olympic gold medals for USA Basketball team in 2008, 2012 and 2016.
