DIYARBAKIR, Turkey (AA) – The number of martyred police officers in Monday’s terror attack in southeastern Turkey has increased to five, hospital sources said.

On Monday, a bomb planted by PKK terrorists hit a police vehicle near an excavation site at the Dicle University campus in Diyarbakir’s Sur district.

The terror attack initially left one officer martyred and five others critically wounded. Four in critical condition, including one on Thursday, eventually succumbed to their wounds at the hospital.

A police officer is still under treatment, said sources who spoke on condition of anonymity due to restrictions on speaking to media.

Police launched an investigation into the incident. A total of three suspects have so far been arrested.

The province has seen numerous terror attacks carried out by PKK, which is listed as a terrorist organization by Turkey, the U.S., and the EU.

The terrorist group resumed its armed campaign in July 2015 and since then has been responsible for the deaths of around 1,100 security personnel and civilians, including women and children.
