By Nancy Caouette MEXICO CITY (AA) – Finance Minister Jose Antonio Meade and U.S. Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin will soon meet here to discuss a range of regional and global concerns, the Mexican government said Tuesday. The finance ministry said in a statement the secretaries agreed “to meet in the coming weeks to address issues of countries’ bilateral agenda and discuss global challenges” during a telephone call Tuesday. Meade congratulated his American counterpart on his new assignment and the officials committed to increase bilateral dialogues and encouraged greater cooperation. “Secretaries Meade and Mnuchin agreed on the importance of the US-Mexico relationship in all areas and agreed to work together for the development of both countries,” the statement said. This announcement of the meeting comes one day ahead of a visit to Mexico by U.S. Secretary of State Rex Tillerson and Homeland Security chief John Kelly. The officials will arrive Wednesday in Mexico City and spend two days in the capital. The American embassy said Tillerson and Kelly will hold meetings with President Enrique Peña Nieto and other top Mexican officials.
