Maritime company expresses regret for Bosphorus crash

ISTANBUL (AA) – The maritime company that owns the tanker crashed into a historic mansion on the shores of the Bosphorus Strait on Saturday expressed regret for the incident, pledging thorough investigation.

“Our biggest consolation is that there were no injuries or environmental pollution. We sincerely thank Turkish authorities for their help during the incident. We would also like to express our determination of investigation into the causes of the incident in all its aspects, ” Vita Management S.A. said in a statement Monday.

On Saturday, the Maltese-flagged tanker hit the shore of the Bosphorus Strait under the Second Bosphorus Bridge near Anatolian Fortress, in Istanbul's Asian part, leaving extensive damage to the mansion.

A technical problem caused the crash and no casualties were reported, according to the Istanbul Governorship.

The hit also damaged a nearby restaurant.
