Italy: Death toll from novel coronavirus rises to 5

ANKARA (AA) – The death toll from the novel coronavirus has risen to five in Italy, local media reported Monday.

Some 219 people are infected by the deadly virus, according to Italian news agency ANSA.

The latest reports indicate that Italy is now third in the world for coronavirus cases after China and South Korea.

The most affected region is Lombardy, located in northern Italy, with 167 cases and four deaths reported.

The coronavirus has sounded global alarm, with China reporting 2,592 deaths from the outbreak on Monday and over 77,000 confirmed cases.

Outside mainland China, the coronavirus has spread to more than 25 other countries including the U.S., the U.K., France, Spain, Russia, Iran, Singapore and India.

The World Health Organization has declared the outbreak an international health emergency.
