Israel releases detained Palestinian intelligence chief

By Lubaba Thuqan

RAMALLAH, Palestine (AA) – The Israeli authorities on Monday released Palestinian intelligence chief Jihad al-Faqih three days after detaining him, according to Palestine’s official Wafa news agency.

Al-Faqih was arrested at an Israeli army checkpoint in northwestern Jerusalem on Saturday while driving to work, Wafa reported.

He was then reportedly taken to Jerusalem for questioning.

On the same day as al-Faqih's arrest, Adnan Ghaith, Jerusalem’s Palestinian governor, was also detained — without explanation — by the Israeli authorities.

As of Monday evening, Ghaith had yet to be released.
