JERUSALEM (AA) – The Israeli army has released a Lebanese national arrested earlier this week for illegally crossing the border between the two countries.
“The army arrested the suspect on Tuesday for infiltrating Israel from Lebanon, ” Israeli army spokesman Avichai Adraee said in a statement.
According to Adraee, the individual — whose name was not given — was freed Thursday after being interrogated.
The Lebanese national's reason for crossing the border remains unclear.
In recent months, the Israeli army has waged a wide-ranging campaign along the Lebanese border with the ostensible aim of uncovering tunnels believed to have been dug by Lebanon’s Hezbollah group.
