JERUSALEM (AA) – Israeli police on Wednesday detained the niece of Palestinian resistance icon Sheikh Raed Salah, according to eyewitnesses.

Witnesses told Anadolu Agency that police had detained Muntaha Amara as she was leaving East Jerusalem’s Al-Aqsa Mosque compound.

The Israeli authorities, meanwhile, have yet to issue a statement on the reported detention.

On Jan. 9, Israeli police briefly detained Amara from her home in Zalafa, an Arab village inside Israel, before releasing her the following day.

Last year, the Israeli authorities banned Amara from visiting the Al-Aqsa Mosque compound for three months.
