JERUSALEM (AA) – Israeli warplanes struck a Syrian military position in the occupied Golan Heights on Friday, shortly after a shell fell into the area.

The Israeli military said an errant projectile from fighting in Syria hit an open area in northern Golan Heights. No injuries were reported.

“In response to the projectile launched towards Israel from Syria, IAF aircraft targeted the Syrian military position that fired the mortar,” the army said in a statement.

It remains unclear whether the raid had caused any casualties or damage.

There was no comment from the Syrian regime on the attack.

Friday’s attack came two days after Israeli carried out an airstrike against Syrian military positions after shells hit the Golan from inside Syria.

Israel has occupied most of Syria’s Golan Heights since the 1967 Arab-Israeli war.
