Israel arrests 'deaf-mute' Palestinian in West Bank

RAMALLAH (AA) – Israeli forces arrested a Palestinian youth with speech impairment in the West Bank city of Hebron on Sunday, according to a Palestinian NGO.

In a statement, the Palestinian Prisoners Society said Ammar Amer, 21, was detained “although he was a deaf-mute “.

It remains unclear why the youth was arrested.

The society said five more Palestinians were arrested by Israeli forces in Hebron, Ramallah and the district of Hizma, northeast of Jerusalem.

The Israeli army carries out frequent arrest campaigns across the West Bank — including occupied East Jerusalem — on the pretext of searching for “wanted” Palestinians.

According to Palestinian figures, roughly 5,700 Palestinians — including numerous women and children — are currently languishing in Israeli detention facilities.
