BAGHDAD (AA) – Four security personnel were injured in a suspected Daesh attack in a Turkmen village in northern Iraq on Wednesday, according to a local police officer.
A group of Daesh militants attacked a security checkpoint in Bashir village, south of Kirkuk province, triggering clashes with security forces, Police Captain Hamed al-Obeidi told Anadolu Agency.
Four security personnel were injured, he added, while the attackers managed to flee the scene unscathed.
Late last year, officials in Baghdad declared that Daesh's military presence in Iraq had been all but destroyed.
It appears, however, that the notorious terrorist group still maintains a limited presence in certain parts of the country.
