IGDIR, Turkey (AA) – One Iranian was killed and three others injured Monday in an armed attack on the Iranian side of the border with Turkey, security sources said.

A group of Iranians, including engineers and soldiers who were working at a place close to Gökay Bidut Taburge in Igdir province, asked Turkish soldiers on patrol for help following the attack as Iranian outposts were far from where they were, said the sources, who asked not to be named due to restrictions on speaking to the media.

Two of the injured were airlifted to a hospital in Kars province while the others were admitted to a hospital in Igdir, where one of them – a soldier – succumbed to his injures, it said.

An Iranian engineer escaped unharmed, the source added.

The motive for the attack remains unknown.
