TEHRAN (AA) – Iran plans to launch two satellites into space next week, President Hassan Rouhani announced Thursday.
Speaking at a ceremony marking the second anniversary of the death of former President Ali Akbar Hashemi Rafsanjani, Rouhani said that “locally manufactured rockets ” would be used to launch the satellites into orbit.
“Iran’s current defense and technological capabilities can be largely credited to Rafsanjani's efforts, ” Rouhani asserted.
He went on to describe the late Rafsanjani as a “unique political figure” who had played a “vital role” during Iran’s devastating eight-year war with Iraq in the 1980s.
In his address, Rouhani provided no further details regarding the planned satellite launches.
