MANISA, Turkey (AA) – Inmates of a prison in western Turkey have produced merchandise worth 1.5 million Turkish liras (some $351,200) in 2017, a judicial official told Anadolu Agency.

Around 190 inmates of the Salihli Correctional Facility in Manisa province are employed at prison workshops that produce a wide range of textile goods as well as food, Hasan Ugurlu, Manisa chief prosecutor, told Anadolu Agency.

He said nearly 60 inmates made around 70,000 bed linens a month for a private company that sells textile products abroad.

Ugurlu said inmates grew various kinds of vegetables and fruits as well as spices, molasses, and herbal oils, adding their products were on par in terms of quality to well-known brands.
