INFOGRAPHIC – Daesh in Syria remains only in regime-controlled area

By Levent Tok and Selen Temizer

ANKARA (AA) – After being pushed by the U.S.-backed YPG/PKK terrorists from east of the Euphrates River, the only area of existence for Deash terror group in Syria is the region under the control of Bashar al-Assad regime.

Even though the U.S. President Donald Trump announced Thursday that they had taken over 100 percent of the Daesh territory in Syria, the terrorists still have a presence in a desert area near Homs city, according to a local source.

The area is estimated to host around 1,500 terrorists that were earlier evacuated by the YPG/PKK and the Assad regime from the center of Raqqa and Deir ez-Zor provinces, said a source, who asked not to be named due to restrictions on speaking to the media.

Taking benefit of the experience it gained in the desert area in Iraq’s Anbar province, Daesh only keep fighters in the area.

The terrorists attack a highway in Sukne town located between Homs and Deir ez-Zor from time to time, the source added.

Despite attacks, the regime forces prefer not to respond to the terrorists and it only carries out partial operations instead of determined ones.

The Daesh now controlled 2 percent of the Syrian territory after it lost the area east of the Euphrates.

On the other hand, some 28 percent of Syrian lands are under the YPG/PKK’s occupation.

The regime forces control some 60 percent of the country, while the military opposition and anti-regime armed groups control around 10 percent of the Syrian territory.

Ankara has repeatedly criticized the U.S. for supplying weapons to the terrorist YPG/PKK ostensibly for fighting the Daesh terror group, arguing that using one terrorist group to fight another makes no sense.

In its 30-year terrorist campaign, the PKK has taken some 40,000 lives, including women and children. The YPG is its Syrian branch.
