CHANDIGARH, India (AA) – India on Wednesday arrested 10 suspected members of a terrorist group inspired by Daesh.

The National Investigative Agency (NIA) said they carried out searches at 17 locations in the capital New Delhi and neighboring Uttar Pradesh in a “major crackdown” on an Daesh-inspired group called Harkat-ul-Harb-e-Islam.

“On receipt of credible information that a group of pro-ISIS [Daesh] individuals have formed a terrorist gang and they are preparing to carry out terrorist attacks targeting vital installations, sensitive locations and crowded places in and around Delhi/NCR, a case was registered,” said an agency statement, adding that the mastermind of the group was Mufti Sohail, a native of Amroha in Uttar Pradesh.

All 10 of the suspects are young Muslim men.

Suhail and his associates planned “to carry out explosions and fidayeen attacks at places of importance in & around Delhi and also target crowded places,” the statement added.
