Hungarian lawmakers re-elect president

BUDAPEST, Hungary (AA) – President Janos Ader was re-elected for a second five-year term by lawmakers on Monday.

Ader, who was nominated by Prime Minister Viktor Orban’s ruling Fidesz party, beat left-wing rival Laszlo Majtenyi by 131 votes to 39, with 29 abstentions, in a second round of voting at the National Parliament.

Under the constitution, Ader, 57, can serve a maximum of two terms in the largely ceremonial post.
