CAIRO (AA) – At least 800 primary school students came down with food poisoning in Egypt’s southern Sohag province on Tuesday, according to Egypt’s Health Ministry.

Students displayed signs of food poisoning “after eating meals at eight state-run schools in Sohag’s Akhmim district,” the ministry said in a statement.

“Some left hospital after receiving treatment, while 145 others remain hospitalized,” it added.

According to private daily Al-Shorouk, more than 30 Egyptian students have come down with food poisoning within the last month alone as a result of eating tainted school food.
