Hot-air balloon crash kills tourist in southern Egypt

CAIRO (AA) – A foreign tourist was killed and another seven were injured early Friday when their hot-air balloon crashed due to inclement weather in Egypt’s southern city of Luxor.

High wind speeds over Luxor caused the balloon to crash, killing one foreign passenger and injuring seven others, according to reports in the local media.

The injured were reportedly taken to Luxor’s International Hospital for treatment.

The Egyptian authorities have yet to comment on the incident.

Egypt has recently seen a flurry of bad weather, which is expected to continue until Saturday.

In recent days, six seaports in Egypt have been forced to temporarily suspend operations due to bad weather.

In 2013, 19 foreign nationals were killed near Luxor — a popular tourist destination — when their hot-air balloon crashed due to fire.
