ANKARA (AA) – Honduran President Juan Orlando pledged Wednesday to fight narco-trafficking, saying the country continues to be "hostile territory" for criminals.
"The fight against drug trafficking WILL NOT STOP. The armed forces have intercepted a drug plane in La Mosquitia and captured a suspicious person," Orlando said on Twitter, referring to the easternmost part of the country.
"Honduras will continue to be hostile territory for criminal organizations," he added.
Honduras passed a law in May that allows security forces to intercept private planes suspected of drug trafficking cocaine to Central America.
Besides fighting criminal narcotic networks, Honduras also wages a war against the coronavirus. The country registered nearly 143,00 and about 3,500 fatalities, according to a running tally by US-based Johns Hopkins University.
More than 60,500 people have recovered from the virus.
