Guatemala opens embassy in Turkey

ANKARA (AA) – Guatemala has opened an embassy in the Turkish capital Ankara on Wednesday.

Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu, speaking during the opening ceremony said: “Today we open a new chapter in our relations with Guatemala.”

Before the opening ceremony, Cavusoglu and Guatemalan Foreign Minister Carlos Raul Morales held a joint press conference.

“I want to thank very much for the cooperation of the Turkish Cooperation and Coordination Agency [TIKA] which has exhibited on health, education and security in our country. Guatemalan people notice this support,” Morales stressed.

Morales congratulated Turkey over Sunday’s referendum result and said it will contribute to the strengthening of democracy in Turkey.

Turkish Foreign Minister Cavusoglu also noted that they will continue to support development projects in Guatemala via TIKA.

Turkey opened an embassy in Guatemala two years ago.
