Glasgow University evacuated over suspicious package

By Ahmet Gurhan Kartal</p> <p>LONDON (AA) – The University of Glasgow has been evacuated after a suspicious package was found in mail room on Wednesday, the university said.</p> <p>“Under advice from Police Scotland, a number of buildings on the main university campus have been evacuated as a precautionary measure after a suspicious package was found in the university’s mailroom, the university said on its official Twitter account.</p> <p>“Police are dealing with the matter and we will provide regular updates,” it said.</p> <p>In a later Tweet, the university said: “As a precautionary measure, police have advised the evacuated buildings should remain closed for the remainder of the day. As such, classes in these buildings have been cancelled for the rest of the day.”</p> <p>On Tuesday, three small improvised explosive devices (IEDs) were found by British police in capital London’s busy transport hubs.</p> <p>The police said A4-sized packages found in Waterloo Station, and Heathrow and City airports did not injure anyone but they had the potential to start fires.</p> <p>The police launched an investigation on IEDs and said it was working with Irish security services as two of the packages had Irish postal stamps.
