Ghana: Coronavirus cases top 27,000

ABUJA, Nigeria (AA) – The number of coronavirus cases reached 27,667 in Ghana, health authorities said on Sunday.

The West African country reported 607 new cases in the past 24 hours, the Ghana Health Service said in a statement.

Nearly 347,000 tests have been conducted in the West African country so far to diagnose COVID-19.

With three new fatalities, a total of 148 people died from the virus, while 23,249 patients recovered.

Since first appearing in China last December, the virus has spread to at least 188 countries and regions. The US, Brazil, India, and Russia are currently the countries hardest hit in the world.

The pandemic has killed more than 605,000 worldwide, with an excess of 14.45 million confirmed cases, according to figures compiled by the US' Johns Hopkins University.

The number of recoveries across the globe surpassed 8.12 million.
