By Bayram Altug</p> <p>GENEVA (AA) – A Strasbourg-based non-governmental organization on Saturday called for “immediate” release of the women and children in Syrian prisons “without any condition.”</p> <p>“We invite everyone in the world who has a conscience to speak up until the last Syrian women and children are released,” the International Council for Justice, Equality and Peace (COJEP) said in a statement.</p> <p>It noted that every religious and moral text respect human ethics and life even in the time of war.</p> <p>“There have been many war crimes in Syria,” it said, adding that the Syrian regime used rape as a weapon against women and it continues to do so.</p> <p>It went on to say: “Some women were arrested during their pregnancy and they gave birth in the places where there were kept. These women are jailed along with their children.”</p> <p>The statement stressed that there was no other choice than peace and that everyone deserves to live with honor without being tortured and oppressed regardless of their religion, language, race, and color.</p> <p>“We support the Conscience Movement for the freedom of jailed women and children in Syria,” it added.</p> <p>The movement is an alliance of individuals, rights groups and organizations aiming to secure urgent action for the release of women and children in the prisons of Syria’s Bashar al-Assad regime.</p> <p>According to the movement, more than 13,500 women have been jailed since the Syrian conflict began in March 2011, while more than 7,000 women remain in detention, where they are subjected to torture, rape and sexual violence.</p> <p>The Conscience Movement was founded last year after an all-woman international convoy made global headlines by raising awareness about the jailed women abuses suffered by the Assad regime.</p> <p> </p> <p><br>
