AMMAN, Jordan (AA) – In the second incident of its kind this month, armed clashes erupted Wednesday between security forces and wanted militants in southern Jordan, according to local media reports.

Jordanian media outlets reported that at least one militant had been killed and another arrested in the confrontation, which reportedly went on until about 15:50 GMT in the southern city of Al-Shobak.

According to a statement released by Jordanian security authorities, the slain militant was a non-Jordanian Arab and a member of a “terrorist group”.

Wednesday’s clashes come after a similar armed confrontation earlier this month in Jordan’s southern city of Karak in which 14 people — including seven security personnel and four militants — were killed.
