Football: Tottenham employee contracts coronavirus

ANKARA (AA) – An employee of the English Premier League tested positive for the novel coronavirus, results revealed Wednesday.

"The Premier League can today confirm that on Monday 1 June and Tuesday 2 June, 1197 players and club staff were tested for COVID-19. Of these, one has tested positive," according to organizers.

The identity of the person was not disclosed for confidential reasons and the league said the individual will be in self-isolation for seven days.

Meanwhile, Tottenham Hotspur said the league told the club the individual who tested positive was from the team.

"We have been informed by the Premier League that we have received one positive test for COVID-19 following the latest round of testing at our Training Centre," Tottenham said in a statement.

The death toll from coronavirus rose to 39,728 in the UK as 359 more fatalities were reported in the past 24 hours.

“As of 9am 3 June, there have been 4,786,219 tests, with 171,829 tests on 2 June. 279,856 people have tested positive," the Department of Health said on Twitter.
