By Fatih Erel</p> <p>ISTANBUL (AA) – Celtic striker Leigh Griffiths has checked into rehab due to "ongoing issues" and will be away from the game for an unspecified time, the team manager has announced</p> <p> “Leigh will be taken out of football now for a little period of time,” said Brendan Rodgers, speaking ahead of Celtic facing Salzburg in the Europa League Group B on Thursday.</p> <p>Rodgers gave no further details on the Scottish player's issues, only saying they had been going on "for a number of months" and that it was more than the injuries he has recently faced.</p> <p>“We want to help him,” added Rodgers, “and we will let you know another time when he is back,” suggesting a return but giving no time frame.
“He's a great guy but football and life is tough for him right now, ” said Rodgers.
He added: “The most important thing for managers and coaches is the welfare of players. He has all of our support: the team, the staff, and the supporters. ”
