RAMALLAH, Palestine (AA) – Leading Fatah members met with an Egyptian security delegation late Thursday in the Israeli-occupied West Bank city of Ramallah, according to Palestine’s Wafa news agency.

Members of the Egyptian delegation — which includes Ayman Badie, Egypt’s deputy intelligence chief — briefed Fatah officials on the results of their Thursday meeting with Hamas officials in the Gaza Strip.

Fatah officials, for their part, reiterated the movement’s support for Cairo’s ongoing efforts to mediate the longstanding rift between it and Hamas, according to Wafa.

The Egyptian delegation arrived in Gaza earlier Thursday via Israel's Erez border crossing.

On Wednesday, a separate Egyptian delegation left Gaza through the Erez crossing after having arrived in the enclave a day earlier for talks with Hamas, which has governed the strip since 2007.

The visits come within the framework of ongoing discussions between Hamas and Egypt about inter-Palestinian reconciliation and a proposed truce between Israel and Gaza-based resistance groups.
