Expat Tunisians start voting in parliamentary polls

TUNIS (AA) – Tunisia on Friday announced the start of overseas voting in the country’s legislative elections.

According to Nabil Baffoun, head of the Independent High Electoral Commission, the first polling opened on Friday in Sydney, Australia at 8.00 a.m. (2200GMT Thursday).

Polling places in Asia, Europe and Africa also opened without any problems. Baffoun added that voting abroad is scheduled to continue on Saturday and Sunday.

There are some 385,000 overseas voters, including nearly 700 in Italy and about 100,000 in France.

Out of more than 7 million eligible to vote in the North African nation, some 3.46 million people are expected to cast ballots.
