Ex-Afghan security adviser to run for president

KABUL, Afghanistan (AA) – Afghanistan's former national security adviser said Tuesday he will run for president.

Mohammad Haneef Atmar recently parted ways with President Ashraf Ghani citing “serious differences ” after serving on this key post for four years.

In an interview with local broadcaster Tolo News, Atmar confirmed he would be contesting as a candidate in the presidential election in April 2019.

Ghani and a number of other leading politicians have already announced their nominations for the election.
