European Youth Olympic games – Day 4

ERZURUM, Turkey (AA) – Day five of the European Youth Olympic Festival ended in the eastern Turkish province of Erzurum Friday with some 675 athletes from 34 countries competing to take home the gold.

This is the first time Turkey has hosted the games, also known as EYOF 2017, in over 25 years.

Many spectators were in attendance, despite the chilly -17 Celsius (1 Fahrenheit) weather.

Friday’s results:

Biathlon mixed

1. Russia’s team won the gold medal with a time of 1.16.39.3.

2. France, with 1.17.28.3, won the silver.

3. Finland, with 1.18.37.2, won the bronze.

Turkey came in 12th among 56 competitors.

Men’s 1,000m short-track speed skating

1. Diane Sellier (France) won the gold medal with a time of 1.35.643.

2. Hazar Karagol (Turkey), with 1.35.854, won the silver.

3. Aleksei Simakin (Russi), with 1.45.728, won the bronze.

Women’s 1,000m short-track speed skating

1. Kamila Stormowska (Poland) won the gold medal with a time of 1.44.485

2. Vera Rasskazova (Russia), with 1.44.537, won the silver.

3. Patrycja Markiewicz (Poland), with 1.44.784, won the bronze.

Alpine skiing team finals

1. Russia won the gold medal.

2. Slovenia, defeated by Russia 1-3, won the silver.

3. France won the bronze.

Team’s speed skating finals – 3,000m relay race

1. Russia won the gold medal with a time of 4.22.578.

2. Poland, with 4.24.843, won the silver.

3. The Netherlands, with 4.25.880, won the bronze.

Turkey came in 4th.
