Eurasian countries register new virus cases, deaths

KIEV (AA) – More coronavirus cases and fatalities were reported in several Eurasian and Central Asian countries on Saturday.

– Ukraine

The death toll in Ukraine reached 3,903 with 76 more fatalities reported over the past 24 hours, the country’s Health Minister Maksym Stepanov said.

Confirming another 3,833 cases, the country saw the highest single-day rise. The tally of cases reached 195,504, with 86,873 recoveries so far.

A total of 104,728 patients remain under treatment in the country, which has extended restrictions until Nov. 1.

– Georgia

Georgia's Prime Ministry said in a statement that the nationwide case count has topped 5,000.

Recoveries have reached 1,819 as 60 more patients recovered over the past 24 hours.

The country has confirmed 27 deaths so far.

– Uzbekistan

In a statement, the Health Ministry in Uzbekistan said that 268 more people contracted the virus, taking the total number of cases to 54,660.

The death toll has risen to 450 with two new fatalities.

The official data showed that another 75 people recovered from the disease, bringing the count to 50,954, which approximately translates to a 93% recovery rate.

Over 3,200 people are getting medical treatment in the country.

– Armenia

According to the Armenian Health Ministry, 429 more people were diagnosed with the disease, pushing the tally to 49,072.

The virus claimed one more life in the country, raising the death toll to 948. So far, 43,576 people have recovered from the virus, while 4,253 people are currently being treated.

The virus has claimed more than 989,300 lives in 188 countries and regions since it broke out in China in December. The US, Brazil and India are currently the worst-hit countries.

Over 32.58 million COVID-19 cases have been reported worldwide, with recoveries surpassing 22.5 million, according to figures compiled by the US’ Johns Hopkins University.
