EU: Women under-represented in managerial positions

By Dilara Hamit</p> <p>ANKARA (AA) – Women in the EU continue to be under-represented among managers, although they are roughly half of total employment, the bloc's statistical office reported Thursday.</p> <p>Nearly 9.4 million workers hold a managerial position as of 2017, Eurostat said, and about a third of managers were women.</p> <p>&quot;This share remained stable since 2012,&quot; the statistical office said on the occasion of International Women’s Day.</p> <p>The largest share of women among managerial positions was recorded in Latvia with 56 percent — the only EU member where women surpassed men.</p> <p>Official figures showed the lowest figure was in Luxembourg where women accounted for just 15 percent of managers.</p> <p>&quot;In addition, women account for a little over one quarter of board members of publicly listed companies in the EU,&quot; it said.</p> <p>Eurostat also noted that women's proportion among senior executives was only 17 percent last year.</p> <p>
