ANKARA (AA) – A ministerial meeting on the Iran nuclear deal — Joint Commission of the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) — will be held on Friday in Vienna under the chairmanship of EU foreign policy chief Federica Mogherini.

In a statement, the EU said: “The meeting will be chaired by EU High Representative Federica Mogherini and will be attended at ministerial level by China, France, Germany, Russia, the United Kingdom and Iran. ”

“The meeting has been called with the intention of agreeing the way forward to ensure the continued implementation of the JCPOA in all its aspects following the withdrawal of the United States from the deal. ”

In July 2015, P5+1 group of countries — the U.S., the U.K., France, China, Russia and Germany — signed with Iran a nuclear deal, which is also known as the JCPOA.

World powers had agreed to lift some economic sanctions on Iran in return for the latter agreeing to limit its nuclear activity to peaceful and civilian purposes.

However, on May 8, Trump announced the unilateral withdrawal of the U.S. from the JCPOA.
