ISTANBUL (AA) – Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan has met Sunday the leader of Iraq’s Kurdish region in Istanbul.

The one-hour closed meeting between Erdogan and Masoud Barzani, president of the Kurdish Regional Government, took place in Mabeyn Palace on Istanbul’s European side.

There has been no press release from either side yet after the meeting, but Erdogan’s spokesman Ibrahim Kalin said on Wednesday, “we have a lot to talk about.”

“Iraq is important for us in all terms — economically, in terms of border security and in humanitarian and cultural terms,” he stated.

He went on to cite similar approaches to tackling Daesh and PKK terrorism as ways Ankara and Erbil could work together.
