ISTANBUL (AA) – Kenyan athlete Eliud Kipchoge set a new world record at the 45th BMW Berlin-Marathon on Sunday.

Running the marathon in 2:01:39, the 33-year old Kenyan Olympic champion broke the previous world record by one minute and 18 seconds.

The previous record was set by Kipchoge's compatriot Dennis Kimetto in 2:02:57 four years ago in Berlin.
