Elie Wiesel dead at 87

WASHINGTON (AA) – Holocaust survivor and Nobel Peace laureate Elie Wiesel died Saturday at his home in New York. He was 87.

The world center for Holocaust research, the Yad Vashem Holocaust Memorial announced his death on its Twitter account.

Wiesel was held at the Auschwitz concentration camp in Poland, when he was a teen and was freed in 1945.

His family, except for two sisters, all died in the Nazi camps.

Wiesel became famous for his classic memoir Night, which tells stories from his days at the camp.

He also wrote many other books and delivered worldwide lectures.

Wiesel was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize in 1986 and was called as a “messenger to mankind”.
