Egypt denies selling lake to Arab state

CAIRO (AA) – The Egyptian government on Tuesday denied reports about plans to sell a lake to an Arab country.

“Lake Manzala belongs to Egypt and the Egyptian people and will not be rented or invested by any other country,” the government said in a statement.

Lake Manzala is the largest of deltaic lakes in northeastern Egypt.

Media reports earlier claimed that Egyptian authorities were planning to rent the lake to an Arab country.

The reports, however, did not name the country planning to buy the lake.

The Egyptian government is currently developing the lake as part of a larger plan to increase the country’s fish production.
