ANKARA (AA) – Egypt's Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry spoke by phone Wednesday with his Israeli counterpart Gabi Ashkenazi on the latest developments in Palestine, according to a statement from the Egyptian Foreign Ministry.

Shoukry demanded an end to Israel’s attacks on Palestinian territories, the statement said.

The death toll from the ongoing Israeli attacks in the Gaza Strip rose to 65, including 16 children, the Palestinian Health Ministry said late Wednesday.

It said five women were among the victims while 365 people were injured.

Tensions have been running high since an Israeli court ordered the eviction of Palestinian families from the Sheikh Jarrah neighborhood of East Jerusalem.

Israel occupied East Jerusalem during the 1967 Arab-Israeli war and annexed the entire city in 1980 in a move that has never been recognized by the international community.
