Dutch royals pay state visit to UK

LONDON (AA) – King Willem-Alexander and Queen Maxima of the Netherlands commenced a 2-day state visit to the U.K. on Tuesday.

The Dutch king and queen were welcomed by Queen Elizabeth at the Royal Pavillion at Horse Guards near Buckingham Palace.

The queen and the visiting royals went to Buckingham Palace with a carriage procession together with Prince Charles and Duchess of Cornwall Camilla.

The visit comes after 36 years since the last royal visit from the Dutch monarchy to the U.K.

The queen showed King Willem-Alexander and Queen Maxima an exhibition that showcases Dutch related items in the royal collection, the royal family said on Twitter.

The visiting royal couple will attend a state dinner at Buckingham Palace Tuesday evening and they will be hosted at the palace.
