Death toll rises to 111 in Cuba plane crash

HAVANA (AA) – The death toll in Friday’s plane crash in Cuba rose to 111 as one of the three survivors, 23-year-old Grettel Landrove Font, died at the hospital.

According to the Cuba state-media reports, Font, who was flamenco dancer and studying engineering, succumbed to her wounds in a hospital in Havana.

The other two survivors — 19-year-old Mailen Diaz and 39-year-old Emiley Sanchez — remain in critical condition, hospital sources said.

The Boeing 737, which en route to Holguin with 114 passengers and crew on board — had crashed shortly after take-off from Havana's Jose Marti International Airport on Friday.

The cause of the crash remains unknown while a special commission has been investigating it.
