ISTANBUL (AA) – Defending champion Michael van Gerwen reached into Professional Darts Corporation (PDC) World Darts Championship semifinals along with Gerwyn Price, Peter Wright and Nathan Aspinall.

Van Gerwen beat Darius Labanauskas 5-2 on Sunday to advance to the semifinal to bid to retain the world championship title.

On Monday's semifinals, the Dutch will face England's Nathan Aspinall, while Welsh Gerwyn Price will meet Scotland's Peter Wright.

Earlier, Fallon Sherrock became the first woman to beat a man in the PDC World Darts Championship on Dec. 17.

Sherrock's fairytale at the championship ended with a third-round loss on Friday to Chris Dobey.

The 25-year-old English woman made headlines when she became the first woman to win a match at the championship after beating countryman Ted Evetts 3-2 in London.

Last year, the tournament announced it was expanding to allow 96 players to participate, reserving two spots for female players.
