SALADIN, Iraq (AA) – At least ten people were killed in Daesh attacks in the northern Iraqi city of Tikrit late Tuesday, according to a local military officer.

The militants began by throwing grenades at the houses of two Iraqi policemen before opening fire on a police checkpoint in Al-Zuhoor district in central Tikrit, Army Major Ghassan al-Jubouri told Anadolu Agency on Wednesday.

He said Iraqi forces and allied militiamen chased the attackers before one of them blew himself up.

A medic at the Tikrit hospital said ten bodies, including three officers, were admitted to the hospital.

“Some 20 people were injured in the attacks,” he said, requesting anonymity due to restrictions on talking to the media.

Iraqi authorities have imposed a curfew in Tikrit following the attacks.

Daesh had overrun Tikrit in 2014 before Iraqi forces managed to recapture the city one year later.
