COVID-19 update in Asia-Pacific countries

ANKARA (AA) – Health authorities in several Asia-Pacific nations Tuesday reported new coronavirus infections and fatalities.

– The Philippines

The Philippines’ Health Ministry announced 937 new COVID-19 cases over the past day, taking the overall count to 479,693.

A total of 58 more people have died of the virus and the death toll reached 9,263 with the latest additions, it said, adding that the number of recoveries stood at 448,375 in the country.

– Singapore

The Health Ministry in Singapore registered 26 imported, two domestic cases of coronavirus over the past 24 hours.

The number of cases reached 58,749, while 29 fatalities were reported so far. A total of 58,497 people have recovered, it said.

– Hong Kong

With 32 new COVID-19 cases, the total count in China's Hong Kong Special Administrative Region reached 9,050, according to authorities.

There were no reports of fatalities in the past day and the death toll stood at 151, while a total of 8,127 people have recovered so far.

– Taiwan

According to the Taiwan Centers for Disease Control, two imported COVID-19 cases were detected in the last 24 hours.

Seven people have been lost to the disease so far, while the case count stood at 817 in the country.

A total of 697 people have also recovered, it said.

– Worldwide


The COVID-19 pandemic has claimed more than 1.85 million lives in 191 countries and regions since it originated in China in December 2019.


Over 85.76 million cases have been reported worldwide, with more than 48.23 million recoveries, according to figures compiled by the US' Johns Hopkins University.


The US, India, and Brazil remain the worst-hit countries in terms of cases.
