COVID-19: Kenya records 5 new deaths, 731 cases

ANKARA (AA) – Kenya registered 731 new cases of the novel coronavirus and five more deaths over the last 24 hours, the Health Ministry said on Monday, as the country grappled with a third wave of the pandemic.

The total number of infections in the country reached 111,967, while the death toll stood at 1,918.

On Friday, Kenya’s President Uhuru Kenyatta announced several COVID-19 restrictions after a spike in infections in the East African country.

The restrictions included a ban on all forms of political gatherings for 30 days.

The move came after authorities recently announced that a third wave of the pandemic had hit the country.

Earlier this month, the ministry formed a National COVID-19 Vaccine Deployment Taskforce to handle the vaccination campaign in the country of 55 million people.
