COVID-19 cases on rise in Arab countries

ISTANBUL (AA) – Tunisia and Palestinian territory Gaza announced more coronavirus fatalities early Saturday as they continued efforts to contain the disease.

Tunisian Health Ministry reported that 58 more people died due to the virus, and 1,616 new cases were identified.

The total deaths in the country caused by the virus have reached 4,616, while the total number of infected cases now stands at 117,582.

The number of people recovering from the disease was 87,884, the ministry added.

Gaza Health Ministry announced 876 more COVID-19 cases over the last 24 hours.

The total number of cases in the blockaded city has increased to 33,034, while no new information about deaths caused by the outbreak was shared by the ministry.

The COVID-19 pandemic has claimed over 1.66 million lives in 191 countries and regions since last December.

Nearly 75.18 million cases have been reported worldwide, with more than 42.51 million recoveries, according to figures compiled by the US-based Johns Hopkins University.

While the US, India, and Brazil remain the worst-hit countries in terms of the number of cases, Europe is in the grip of a devastating second wave of infections.
