Countries distance selves from US J’lem embassy move

JERUSALEM (AA) – Some countries have distanced themselves from Monday’s controversial inauguration ceremony for Washington’s new embassy in Jerusalem, Israeli daily Haaretz reported Thursday.

Only 22 out of 32 countries on the Israeli Foreign Ministry’s list of attendees (published one day before the event) are confirmed to have attended the inauguration ceremony, Haaretz reported.

According to the newspaper, Serbia, Vietnam, Peru, El Salvador and the Ivory Coast — along with several others — have denied sending representatives to the event.

On the same day as the embassy’s inauguration, scores of Palestinian demonstrators were martyred by Israeli army gunfire near the fence separating the Gaza Strip from Israel.
