Coronavirus continues to spread in Eurasian countries

NUR SULTAN, Kazakhstan (AA) – Coronavirus cases and fatalities continued to rise across Eurasia on Sunday.

Ukraine’s overall case count reached 18,291, with the death toll up to 514 and recoveries at 5,116.

In Moldova, two more people died of COVID-19, raising the death toll to 209. A total of 5,934 cases have been reported in the country to date, including 2,408 recoveries, according to health officials.

At least 26 more people also tested positive in Moldova’s autonomous region of Gagauzia, raising the total to 225, including nine deaths.

In Kazakhstan, 307 new cases raised the total to 6,157, including 34 fatalities. A total of 2,980 people recovered so far.

In Georgia, 15 new COVID-19 cases raised the total to 698, including 12 deaths and 425 recoveries.

In Uzbekistan, 22 more cases pushed the overall count to 2,741, including 2,213 recoveries and 11 fatalities.

A total of 474,000 tests have been conducted in the country so far, according to a top health official.

In Armenia, 189 new cases raised the total to 4,472, including 1,925 recoveries and 60 deaths, the Health Ministry said.

More than 4.65 million cases have been reported in 188 countries and regions since the virus emerged in China last December.

The US, Europe, and Russia are currently the hardest-hit areas.

The pandemic has claimed over 312,000 lives worldwide, while recoveries exceed 1.69 million, according to figures compiled by the US’ Johns Hopkins University.
